Nearly four weeks after an attack on environment minister Ahmed Abdullah, twelve Haa Dhaal atoll Kulhudhuffushi islanders remain in custody.
Police have forwarded the cases of 37 islanders to the attorney general’s office (AGO) for prosecution, but Hussein Shameem, director general at the AGO, said it was not certain that all would be charged.
But a defence lawyer, representing several of the suspects, said he did not believe there was enough evidence to convict more than four of the suspects.
Meanwhile a contract has been signed for the installation of a sewerage system on Kulhudhuffushi – the issue over which the minister is said to have been attacked.
