Four men from Maavashu island of Laamu atoll have been struck by lightning while out on high sea on a fishing trip last night.Laamu Atoll Chief Ali Waheed said one of the 4 men struck by lightning fell in to the sea and is missing. Chief Waheed said the incident occurred last night at around 2340 hours.
He informed that when the incident occurred the 4 men were on a grouper collecting tank located near Kashiguraidhoo Island. The missing person has been identified as Ali Ibrahim of Buchaage / L Maavashu Island.
According to Atoll Chief the 3 survivors was treated at Maavashu Health Center for shock and burns. Abu bakur Idris, the person sitting next to the missing person Ali Ibrahim, received severe burns to his back. Atoll Chief Ali Waheed informed that Abu bakar is still receiving medical care while other two has sent home.
Search and rescue operations are underway to find the missing Ali Ibrahim. The search is carried out by Maldives National Defense Force personnel (MNDF) with the help of police officers and citizens of Maavashu Island.
