
Maldives Police has arrested 2 Sri Lankan woman engaged in prostitution in Ray Ali Guest House in Mafannu Ward in Male’. The 2 Sri Lankan prostitutes were arrested along with 2 Bangladeshi men.
Providing information on the special police operation to apprehend the prostitutes, In- Charge of Serious and Organized Crime, Inspector Hamdhoon Rasheed said the special operation, conducted jointly by Serious Organized Crime Unit and Internal Intelligence Unit, was launched following a tip off from the public.
Inspector identified the 2 Sri Lankan women as Nanayakara Varunakula , age 32 years and Warunakula Surya Nayoma , age 34 years. The 2 Bangladeshi men, who were working as their agents, are Koshid Alam, age 24 years and Suwel age 29 years.
“We have taken in to custody the occupants of room 403 of Ray Ali Guest House, they are two expatriate woman and 2 expatriate men, the 2 men were working as agents to the 2 prostitutes, the 2 women are in Maldives on tourist visas, one of them entered Maldives on 13 May while the other came in on 2 July” Inspector Hamdhoon said.
Inspector revealed that although most of the clients of the prostitutes are foreigners, Maldivians also have used the services of these prostitutes. Inspector further informed that one of the Bangladeshi arrested identified as Suwel was in Maldives illegally.
He also said although no money was discovered on site, western union transfer slips were discovered. Further, he said although the guest house owner is a Maldivian, the receptionist was a foreigner.
