Press briefing on the arrested foreigner in suspicion of involvement in the case of the 4kg drugs smuggled into Maldives via Pakistan

Today, the Police has given a press briefing on the arrested 29-yearold Sri Lankan national Mohamed Nashmy Mohamed Farooq who is suspected to have a connection with 29-yearold Abdul Wahidh of MA. Nolhivaram, who was arrested in suspicion of involvement in the case of the 4kg drugs smuggled into Maldives via Pakistan on the 14th of March, disclosing some of the results of the investigation so far.Informing the media, Head of Drug Enforcement Unit Sub Inspector Mohamed Jinah reported that the arrested foreigner first entered the Maldives in November 2007.The arrestee has confessed to associating with Abdul Wahid to bring a Russian woman to Maldives to engage in a prostitution business and to being privy to the fact that Abdul Wahid has smuggled illicit drugs into the Maldives via India on numerous occasions and engaged in illicit drugs business. He also declared to being requested by Abdul Wahid to recruit Sri Lankans to help in his drugs business.A total of 4 people have been arrested by the Police in connection with this case. Two of them are 38-yearold Mohamed Wasoodh Mohamed Bisthamee and 56-yearold Sameen Ummul Faumiyya, both Sri Lankans, who smuggled 4kg of illicit drugs into Maldives. The other two are Abdul Wahid and Mohamed Nashmy Mohamed Farooq, who were both arrested in suspicion of being involved in this case.The other case briefed to the media today was the case of the 4 people arrested for possession of a large amount of alcohol in a rented room in G. Mahumaa on the night of the 25th of April. They are all employees of Trans Maldivian Airways. Sub Inspector Mohamed Jinah also mentioned that bottles of alcohol were packaged in mineral water cases and that the main offender involved in this crime is one of the four foreigners arrested.Investigation so far has not found any link between the bottles of alcohol seized from the arrestees and the owner of the house.
