Nasheed Encouraged to attack the Police in Leaked Audio

An exposed phone call involving former President Mohamed Nasheed, where he is heard encouraging the organizing of a gang to attack the Police.
The conversation was played at a press conference held at Iskandar koshi today by police, and involves Nasheed and Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) National Council member and MP Mariya Ahmed Didi.
Mariya is heard saying, “Protesters are being pushed back using pepper spray and other things. That’s why we haven’t been able to hold the National Council meeting. We have received another letter at the office, saying that it should be vacated by 10pm tonight. There is nothing more that can be done. The National Council meeting cannot be held, quorum requirement is not met!”
She then asks Nasheed what to do next.
Nasheed replies, “There’s nothing much to do! I don’t really know. What can we possibly do? [...] I think the best thing to do is, if we can get together a fighting gang, to get them to go out and fight. Because I really think that the solution is to fight. If we can get a group, they should be sent out to fight. Find a fighters gang in Male’ and get them to assault the Police. This is what I think is right. I don’t know if we can find such a group. But I want them attacked.”
Police said that the recording was obtained through a Court order following intelligence information received on 29 May, and that the conversation took place on the day the Police attempted to dismantle Usfasgandu.
Following this, several violent attacks were inflicted on the Police on 29 and 30 May.
“Several Police officers who were maintaining the security at the Fuel Supply on Boduthakurufaanu magu were attacked and injured. This includes a female Police officer,” Riyaz said.
Riyaz said that following Nasheed’s phone call, 22 reports were received of Police officers sustaining physical injuries.
Describing the recent attacks on Police, Riyaz said that Police officers have been hit with stones, kicked, and punched. Also, items have been torched and thrown at the Police; and chilli-water packets and engine oil have been hurled aimed at Police officers’ eyes and ears.
Several Police officers have had to obtain treatment abroad for the serious injuries sustained due to these attacks.
In addition, offensive language is often used to address Police officers, and threats have been made on several occasions involving members of their families.
