Seven expatriates have been arrested in connection to the dead Bangladeshi who was found with his throat slashed in Hulhumalé on Sunday morning.
Milan had been found dead on his bed inside a room in a house in Hulhumalé.
Inspector Hamdhoon Rasheed of the Maldives Police Service told the media that the Bangladeshi named Milan, 35, had died from blood loss due to the slash wounds on his neck and hands. The seven people that the Police had arrested are six Indians and one Bangladeshi who shared the same room with the victim. Inspector Hamdhoon did not say whether any of those who had been arrested had confessed to the murder or to being an accomplice to the murder.
Police said that their investigation seemed to indicate that the man had been killed while he was asleep in his room.
Police also showed the media some pictures taken at the crime scene. The photos showed a huge pool of blood around the bed where Milan was murdered. The blood had also soaked into the bedsheets of the bed. The slash wound to his neck was very deep and exposed severed nerves and his windpipe. There were slash wounds on his arms also. The photos also showed a discarded knife, covered in blood, near the bed.
