Feydhoo man arrested on drug charges

A young man has been arrested in Feydhoo of Addu Atoll along with large amounts of substances believed to be drugs. According to sources the arrested person is Niyaz Anwar of Saljange of S. Feydhoo. Addu Police Station informs that Niyaz Anwar was arrested when he was found in possession of large amounts of drugs. Police discovered the drugs during a search of the house where he lived as well as his body. Police they were acting on a tip off. Further Addu Police Station informs that Niyaz resisted arrest and attacked and injured a policeman. Police informs that Niyaz Anwar in addition to biting the arm and causing severe flesh wound also broke the nose of the police officer. Sub Inspector Ahmed Mohamed, In Charge of Addu Police Station said the matter is currently under investigation. Ahmed Mohamed revealed that 11 packets of suspected drugs were found on Niyaz. Police have intensified their efforts to maintain law and order in Addu Atoll resulting in a reduction of drug related offenses and burglary.
